24 Jun 2009Increase the visibility of your website, brand, and profile as an expert in your niche by sharing helpful articles, posts, videos, or news with the social bookmarking communities interested in your niche.
Be generous with your links to other sites you think your niche will find helpful. Don’t worry about sending business elsewhere, when it comes to social bookmarking, you really have to let your customers come to you.
A - All in One SEO - a bit specific to start, but this is a WordPress plugin that makes it easy to optimize your entire website.
B - Blogging - You’re reading a blog! The blog revolutionized the way we expect, find, and consume information. Blogging consists of a page regularly updated with new posts, which can consist of articles, new, videos, or personal reflections. If one medium is directly most responsible for the decilne of the printed newspaper and magazine it’s the blog. If you’re starting a blog, check out the ABCs of starting a blog for your business.
C - Community - The web has changed drastically over the past few years. Since the boom of web 2.0, the web has become a living entitiy where the users create the content, share information, connect, and decide what they’re interested in reading or watching. To business owners, this means you can connect with your customers directly!
D - Delicious - One of the most popular social bookmarking sites around. Great way to build links to your site (see inbound links below) and share your work with others. Check out Dapeem’s bookmarks!
E - eBooks - A popular, affordable way for content creators to sell their work professionally and electronically. If you can write a how-to, 101 introduction, or other type of general material, you can sell it as an eBook.
F - Feedburner - One of the most popular ways to manage your RSS feed subscriptions, email subscriptions, and updates. Though this Google owned platform enables publishers to monetize their feeds using Google Adsense, more innovation is surely on the horrizon.
G - Google Friend Connect - A centralized way to connect with people no matter where you’re from (Blogger, Wordpress, TypePad, OpenID). Google really put forth some innovation here.
H - How To - The how to article is one of the most appealing pieces of content to those searching for information. Create your content, whether a blog, article hub, eBook, or newsletter with the attraction to the how to in mind. Creating compelling content people want to read and share is called linkbaiting, arguably the best way to up your rank with inbound links.
I - Inbound Links - The most important aspect of search engine optimization and placement. An inbound link is any link pointing to your website. Though the search engines’ algorithm is always changing and there are thousand of factors in play, inbound links reveal what the community finds interesting, relevant, and helpful — all of which are top priorities to Google.
J - Jobster - A social networking site for those seeking jobs. Handy for those looking to expand their staff.
K - Kindling - A way to share ideas …
L - LinkedIn - A network for the professional world. Connect with your co-workers, network with their contacts, share your work experience, and build your network of connections.
M - Make Money - Don’t forget why you’re spending your time and effort on social networking, bookmarking, and blogging.
N - No Follow - Not too long ago, Google’s spiders would find links in the comments section of a blog and credit “link juice” to the site where it pointed - this was one way of increasing yourwebsite’s ranking. However, when people started abusing this aspect of Google’s indexing, Google developed what’s called a no follow tag. This no follow tag blocked spiders from following links found in the comments section. What’s this mean? It means you won’t get link juice from the links you leave in comments sections of other blogs. This said, it’s still worth the effort to post relevant links to your site if you can - you never know who will find your content interesting … especially if its a how to!
O - Orkut - A Google owned social network known for its discussion forums.
P - Pages - A powerful feature from Facebook that allows you to create a presence on the popular social site for your business, which in turn allows members interested to view your content and updates wihtout leaving the comfort of their favorite online hangout. Also enables page owners to email those who become a “fan” of a page.
Q - Quality Content - Starting a blog is demanding; it requires the dedication of time, effort, and attention to current events in your niche on top of your normal efforts as a business owner. It’s importnat to remember that Google indexes content based on links, page rank, and thousand of other formulas, including quality. Both Google and your readers are looking for quality content to share with others, so take the time to develop your style, voice, and angle. Avoid splashing twenty posts that reveal two sentenses of information each - it’s not worth the time unless you’re creating quality content people will want to share.
R - Rank - Your website has what’s known as page rank - a score from 0 to 10 that reflects how Google sees your site. The more inbound links, the higher your rank. The higher your rank, the higher your placement in the search results. You can increase your rank using either white hat or black hat search engine optimization (SEO) techniques - white hat is a legitimate approach that can include linkbaiting, keyword research, and efforts to build links in the social realm while black hat is a shunned approach that can include tricky tactics such as hidden text, participation with link farms, and title manipulation. It’s all very complex and ever-changing. The best place to learn about search engine optimization and current trends is the Google Webmaster Blog.

In addition to helping increase your exposure, this also increases the quality of your content when using images, slideshows, and video.
V - Video - The hottest thing online. It’s the fastest way to create information, obsorb information, and share information. Plus, it’s the best way to build your profile as a person because it allows you to convey your emotion — something that was always limited in text … :0
